Where We Fly

Flying the Bay Area

We’re based at Buchanan Field (KCCR) in Concord, with Northern California’s mix of coastal, valley, and mountain flying right out the door. This is where we talk about where we’ve flown, where we’re headed next, and who just leveled up.

Where We Fly

Favorite Northern California destinations

Our Fly-Out Group has logged trips all over the region — a mix of $100-hamburger runs and full-day adventures. Recent and recurring destinations include:

  • Watsonville (KWVI) — coastal fly-in favorite
  • Santa Rosa (KSTS) — wine country fly-out
  • Lampson Field, Clear Lake (KUKI area) — lake views and lunch
  • Auburn (KAUN) — foothill airport with a classic diner
  • Oroville (KORV) — a regular Northern California stop

See Community for how to join a fly-out.

Achievements

Checkrides, ratings, and new certificates

Getting an instrument rating, a tailwheel endorsement, or a first solo is a big deal — this is where we plan to celebrate it. Here’s the kind of shout-out we’re picturing:

Sample — not a real member

New Instrument Rating

“Member Name just passed their IFR checkride!” — format for celebrating a member’s new rating, with the airport and a short note from them if they’d like.

First Solo

A quick congratulations post for a member’s (or their student’s) first solo flight — photo optional, grin mandatory.

New Certificate

Private, commercial, CFI, tailwheel, seaplane — any new certificate or endorsement is chapter-newsletter-worthy.

Earned a new rating or certificate? Tell us about it and we’ll help you celebrate it here and in the newsletter.
